At TBFC, we believe in creating real-world opportunities for young talent. Our work experience programme is open to schools, colleges, universities and organisations who want to give their students a tangible gateway into the fashion & creative industries.

Our work experience placements are designed for those studying fashion, photography, marketing, makeup, hair, and event management, providing them with valuable hands-on experience across different areas of the industry. We offer this through a subscription-based model, where each student is signed up for one year, allowing them to gain ongoing exposure, experience, and opportunities within Birmingham Fashion Council projects and events. (Schools if you’d like to discuss a shorter time scale we can definitely do this also)

Over the last three years, we’ve learnt that simply having students turn up for a few days is a disservice — both to them and to us. Many students need structured training, confidence-building, and guidance to execute tasks independently and use their own initiative. That’s why we have revamped and tailored our work experience programme into a more structured, impactful model for college and university students pursuing creative and fashion-related courses.

Upon completing the programme- students will leave with hands-on experience, enhanced confidence, a polished portfolio, and career-ready skills, providing them with clear employment pathways and enterprise entry opportunities in the fashion and creative industries.

Why This Matters
It’s fantastic that creatives are studying to perfect their craft at higher education institutions, but all too often, once they enter the market with qualifications, they struggle to find work due to lack of practical experience. By enrolling students with us, they will not only graduate with their qualifications but also gain over 60+ hours of structured work experience, giving them clear routes into employment, enterprise, or further professional development

Organisations can trust our programme to provide students with structured, high-quality work experience. We are the only organisation in the West Midlands offering a formal, proven programme that connects students with a diverse range of Birmingham creatives currently working in notable fashion establishments. These industry professionals mentor and guide students throughout the year, bridging the gap between academic study and real-world experience, and equipping them with the skills, portfolio, and confidence to pursue employment, enterprise, or further professional development.
